Getting on the round
Window cleaning is not really a booking. It is a round, and once you are on it your street has a day. Here is what that means for you and how you join.
Why it works this way
A window cleaner's van is full of water and the water is heavy, so the whole job is planned around doing one area at a time. Everything on your street gets done in the same trip, which is why a house on the round costs less than the same house done once as a favour to a stranger twenty minutes off the route.
It is also why you will occasionally see us outside on a day you were not expecting. Weather moves the whole street, not just you.
The three steps
- 1 Ring and say where you are. The postcode and roughly what the house is: terrace, semi, detached, dormer, conservatory on the back. That is enough to know whether it fits.
- 2 Rich prices it and tells you the day. He will say what he charges for a house like yours and which day of the round your street falls on. If there is no room on it, you will be told that rather than strung along.
- 3 Leave the side gate open. After that you do not need to be in and you do not need to do anything. The windows get done and you find them clean when you get home.
One off cleans
If you are selling, or letting, or the in laws are coming and the windows have not been touched since you moved in, that is a one off and it is a different price to the round. Say so when you ring and it gets quoted as its own job.
How often, and what it costs
Both of those are Rich's to tell you, not ours to publish. Window cleaners price by the property and set their own interval, and we would rather leave a gap here than print a number that turns out to be wrong when you ring.
Ask him on the call. It is the first thing he gets asked and he will have an answer ready.
Questions people ask
Do I need to be in when you come?
No, as long as the side gate is unlocked and the back is reachable. If the gate is bolted from the inside, say so when you ring and we will sort out a time you are there.
Why are the windows wet when you leave?
Because the water is filtered, so it dries off the glass on its own without leaving the spotting tap water leaves. Leave it alone and it clears as it dries.
Do the frames and sills get done as well?
Yes, they are part of the same job. A brush on a pole scrubs the frame and rinses it, which is most of the reason the glass stays clean longer.
How high can you reach without a ladder?
The pole does normal two-storey houses and conservatory sides from the ground. If you have something taller or awkward, ring and describe it before booking.
What if it rains on the day?
Rain on its own does not undo a pure water clean, because there is nothing on the glass for it to lift. Heavy weather that makes the pole unsafe is a different matter and the visit gets moved.
How do I pay?
Ask Rich when he quotes the job. Payment is arranged between the two of you, and we have not put anything here that he has not told us.
Want your windows doing?
Ring Rich, tell him where you are and what sort of house it is, and he will tell you whether he can fit you on the round.
