Why the water goes through a filter first
The kit in the van, what it does to the water, and why that leaves the glass clearer.
Tap water round here carries dissolved minerals. Put it on a window and the water evaporates but the minerals stay, which is the white spotting you see on a car left to dry in the sun. That is why a cloth and a bucket needs a chemical to lift it off again.
The tank in the photo is the answer to that. Mains water goes through a sediment filter, a carbon filter and then a reverse osmosis membrane, and comes out with the minerals stripped out of it. Nothing is left behind when it dries, so nothing needs adding to get rid of what was left behind.
It is also why the frames get done. A brush on a pole with clean water running through it will scrub a frame and rinse it, which a squeegee and a bucket of soapy water on a ladder will not.
What that means on the day
- Filtered water only, no detergent and no chemical
- Rinses rather than wipes, so nothing is smeared into a corner
- Reaches upstairs and conservatory sides from the ground
- Cleans the frames and the sills, not only the glass
